What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is known as a great pain reliever, but something that is not commonly known, is that it is wonderful at treating almost any ailment. We see many conditions at Eminent Wellness that include, but are not limited to, insomnia, headaches, digestive issues, gynecological problems, inflammation, weak immunity, stress, anxiety, and depression. Whatever you come to see our Acupuncturist for, you will be treated as a complete package and not just a symptom.
Dr. Mandie Gillette is not limited to just using Acupuncture. She also utilizes these other modalities into her treatments.
Cupping: Fire cupping is a traditional cupping method that uses heat and glass cups. By leaving them on the body, or moving them gently with oil, cupping relieves muscle tension, tight fascia, and helps the body de-stress.
Moxibustion (Moxa): Moxa is a herb that is used to warm, move blood, lift qi, and boost the body’s vital energy. In the clinic we use a carbonized version of mugwort to help things such as pain, bloating, low back issues, fertility, and fatigue.
Guasha: Using stone, bone, or silicone tools, gua (scrape) sha (red) is a way to help break up stagnant areas. Where there is stagnation, there is pain. On bigger muscles we scrape to redness, on the face we use very light pressure to gently bring blood and qi to the face.
Herbal Formulas: Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) incorporates traditionally formulated prescriptions that can help as many conditions as acupuncture. The formulas we use are made from highest grade sources.
Orthopedic Acupuncture: This type of acupuncture is a more intense style of acupuncture, typically known as Dry Needling, and it works on motor points and trigger points. By needling into the most innervated part of a muscle and helping to reset tight or lax muscles, we address imbalances in muscle tone and function.
Food Therapy: Chinese food therapy is a simple and easy take home for patients. By using the nature of food: hot, cold, warming, neutral, yin/yang boosting, qi/blood boosting, we are able to encourage our patients to use what they can find at home or in the supermarket to help their conditions outside of treatments.
Auricular: Ear seeds (small gold balls with transparent stickers) are placed on specific points within and around the ear to further treatments, and are a great way for patients to maintain the effectiveness of their acupuncture session after they head home.
