For most folks, being on the chiropractor’s table may conjure images of having one’s neck and back adjusted, but it is important to remember to ask your chiropractic care provider about tending to your extremities if you feel your overall health may benefit from this approach.
From the hands and wrists to the feet and ankles, there are many regions of the body that a chiropractor can adjust to promote optimal function. Extremities are at risk of injury due to increased mobility. Commonly injured areas include shoulders, elbows, knees, hips, ankles, feet, wrists, and hands.
The key to these types of injuries is to create stability (through exercise) and create mobility (through manipulation), where needed. As they say, everything is connected. Therefore, when dealing with an extremity injury, it often affects a different area as well, due to compensation. Treatment will, therefore, include the joints above and below the injured site in order to fully recover.
